Departures: every day duration: 4d/3n type : trekking period : all year the inka jungle trail is considered as one of the most beautiful and complete alternative routes to get to machu picchu, because it is flexible and is one of the least explored in the region. on the way, we´ll be able to take long walks during 4 days or we´ll have the option to go on the mountain bike circuit on the first day. it starts at an altitude of 4,215 m. and ends at 2,220 m. above sea level, enjoying landscapes from the rustic “puna” or highlands, all the way to the tropical forest, as well as the visit of archaeological complexes or small sections of incan trails with stone stairs, that are little visited by tourists, beautiful waterfalls, natural thermal baths, exotic fruit and the daily life of the area´s settlers with whom we´ll be able to share friendly moments.
Day 1 Cusco – Santa Maria
We will depart at 7:30 from your hostal, we will go by bus to Ollallaytambo and then to Abra Malaga which is 4,350 above sea level.
We will take our bikes and go the will down sightseeing the “Convention valley”. We’ll see different vegetation during this trip, since template vegetation to jungle vegetation. We’ll have lunch in Carrizales and visit the Inca Ruins of Wamanmarka. After 5 hours of biking we will arrive to Santa María at 1130m above sea level. We will have dinner and sleep there.
Day 2 Santa Maria – Santa Teresa
Alter having breakfast we’ll trekking in different routes which were made by the Incas to Santa Teresa, seeing the plantation of Coca and Café. In Santa Teresa you can visit hot springs.
Day 3 Santa teresa – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast we’ll go to Vilcanota river to cross the hanging bridges, and go to Hidroelectrica where we will have lunch. After that we will go to Aguas Calientes to have dinner and sleep.
Day 4 Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
After breakfast, we’ll ascend (hiking or by bus, according to your needs and wishes), to the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and enjoy a guided tour of two and one-half hours, followed by free time to ascend Huayna Picchu, visit the Temple of the Moon, or hike to Intypunku (the Sungate). Later on, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco, arriving at about 9:30 pm.
